Sure, beef Bolognese may sound kind of basic, but the flavors are deep and miles ahead of what most other backpacking companies are making. You need a pot to boil the pasta for this dish, but everything else is easy to prepare. There’s an upside: With just-add-water pasta, the manufacturer decides how al dente you want it—and often it’s not toothsome enough for my liking. With this method, I can control my pasta chew.

frequently asked questions

Why is a Cook–in–Cozy™ recommended?

We recommend that all of our hot meals spend time "steep-cooking" while snuggled in a Cook-in-Cozy. We find this method promotes a more consistent temperature and steady cook time for Cook-in-Bag preparation; and results in a better serving temperature for your meal. When not in use, our Cook-in-Cozy folds away nicely in your pack for storage and weighs in at only 1.4oz.

I forgot to eat a few of these and they were 6 months past their best by date when I did. Not a problem. They tasted amazing. So far I have not had any issues with the food not reconstituting properly nor being too salty or under seasoned in my opinion. I'll be getting another one.

Prep was a little more involved that I originally thought. If you are tight on water, especially in desert conditions, this pack uses a decent amount of water. Other than that concern, the whole dish rehydrated really well. Words can't explain the flood of amazing.

Yum! Love this one. Yes, it's a little bulkier than others, but worth it if you've got the room. One of my favorites.

Decent meal, but not great. One of their heavier meals weight-wise. Given the high weight/nutrient ratio and the average flavor, I don’t think I’ll buy this again.

Prep was a little more involved that I originally thought. If you are tight on water, especially in desert conditions, this pack uses a decent amount of water. Other than that concern, the whole dish rehydrated really well. Words can't explain the flood of amazing.
