Heat Diffuser

One of our favorite camp kitchen tools: a heat diffuser (a.k.a. flame tamer) can make the difference between a perfectly cooked camp dinner and a scorched barely edible meal. How? The perforations work to distribute the intensity of the heat directly hitting the bottom of the pan, so the chance of burning is virtually eliminated. We recommend adding this layer of protection between the flame and the bottom of your cookpot any time you want to ensure a slow steady burn-free cook time.

I've found this product works really well over an alcohol stove. I used it on a two week camping roadtrip, making scrambled eggs every day and heating up side dishes. It was very obvious the one day I forgot to put it on, as there was a hot spot on the pan right above the stove that burned the eggs. It *is* possible to make eggs on a stove without this (I've cooked eggs even over a canister stove), but you will have to work very hard to keep food from burning as there will be one hot spot instead of a more evenly heated pan. With this diffuser it's more like cooking on a kitchen stove.
